Sixty at the Biltmore

Recently Paula (my step-mom and grammy extraordinaire) and her twin sister Carla turned 60. Carla lives in Dodge City, Kansas but was in town for the weekend. They spent a night at the Biltmore and celebrated turning 60. The Biltmore is such a beautiful hotel. Its design was influenced by Frank Lloyd Wright. Here’s a little tidbit: my great-uncle Sim Bruce Richards, used to study with Frank Lloyd Wright. And when I was a kid I wanted to be an architect because of him.

Mandi and Cara (Paula and Carla’s daughter’s), decorated the room up and also had shirts made for them that said “Still sexy at 60” ha ha!

The Biltmore grounds are beautiful. Even when it’s 115 degrees out with high humidity. August is not pretty in Arizona.

Carla and Paula then and now. In all the baby pictures Paula is on the right and Carla on the left. They really looked alike when they were babies.

Inside the hotel lobby. I just love the fine details on the walls and the cool mid-century furniture.

The Capital Grille, where we went for dinner. Very good food. When we sat down the chef delivered a little taster for us all to try. We ended up ordering a lot of food and sharing it. They also brought out a delicious cake for Paula and Carla. It had chocolate, espresso and lots of sugar. What more could you ask for in a cake?

Happy 60th birthday Paula and Carla. I hope sixty is a great year for you two!
